Artemis Books and Goods

Artemis Books and Goods LLC was founded in 2025 by Sam Duby, Caitlin Marsh, Rachel Sang, and Carissa Yonan. We met as booksellers at Brilliant Books, a former indie bookstore in downtown Traverse City, and when that store closed its doors, we had the option of either leaving the book world to stay in Traverse City, or leaving town to find bookstore work elsewhere.

We decided on a third route: opening a bookstore of our own.

We’re building Artemis from our desire for a space for book people of all stripes. We wanted somewhere that caters to the changing needs of the community, whether that’s beach books and local guides for summer tourists, school book fairs in the fall and spring, or social events to help beat the isolation and cold of a Northern Michigan winter. We wanted a place for friends and neighbors to connect over books, so now that’s exactly what we’re working to create. Come join us!

Where are you located?

Currently, we’re looking for a permanent home in the Traverse City area, but we’ll be holding pop-up author events, book fairs, and other offerings until we find the right spot! Follow us on social media for the latest event updates. Can I buy books online?

Yes. For now, we’re working with Bookshop.org to offer books for online shoppers, but very soon you’ll be able to buy directly from us, which is always the best way to support your bookstores of choice!

Can I order books for pickup?

Not yet, but soon! Currently, we can only offer books via shipment, but we’re working on having at least one option for collecting orders in the Traverse City area.

Why Artemis?

The store is named after the Greek goddess Artemis, whose dominion includes nature, wildlife, healing, women, and children. She’s also considered an icon for the asexual and lesbian communities and her symbols include bears and deer. While Artemis Books & Goods is a general interest bookstore, these are elements that hold special significance for us as the owners, so in the end, it just felt right!
